We think of Renewal Construction fondly every time we feed the five thousand in our vastly expanded kitchen, with walls of windows that let in morning light.
We can't imagine how we ever lived with our tiny kitchen, or how we survived without a second bathroom or a laundry room. Our guests are always impressed with our new addition, and so are we.
We'd only been homeowners for a little over three years when we decided on a kitchen addition, and we were quite daunted by the entire process. Peter Michelson and the Renewal Construction team were patient and understanding; over the course of a year, long before we began construction or considered possible floor plans, Peter met several times with us, offering advice, lending design magazines and books, and walking through our house with us to talk through possibilities. He even, literally, crawled under the house with us in these early planning stages. Few contractors are so truly down to earth.
We were impressed throughout the building stages with Peter and Renewal Construction. Peter always communicated personally with us, detailing costs, explaining projected expenses, and discussing ranges of price options to help us manage our construction budget. Peter was especially accommodating of our schedules, volunteering to meet with us evenings and weekends. It was clear that Peter worked to read our tastes and to help us design the home we wanted, even with tricky custom designs. Case in point: finding creative ways to use filled-in window spaces. We're especially thrilled that the bathroom window we filled in became a one-of-a-kind medicine cabinet, complete with built-in laundry chute. We hardly miss the view when we're flinging dirty towels away with such ease.
As a contractor, Peter often went above the call of duty in helping us. We needed to save money, so we wanted to select some tasks to complete ourselves. Peter and his team gave us personal advice about painting, offered us intermittent lessons on putting up drywall and finishing trim, and provided ongoing guidance in constructing, on our own, a bedroom closet, even though it was not part of our addition nor our building costs. When Peter's plumbing team discovered leaks and old rot under our existing bathroom, we found ourselves with the unforeseen ordeal of facing a complete bathroom renovation. This was far beyond our budget. To help us keep our bathroom usable without an overhaul, Peter brought in a carpenter to shore up the tub to prevent further damage to flooring while also helping us keep our building costs within our means. This has spared us from funneling away thousands of dollars and has kept us out of the poorhouse.
We have been so pleased with our addition and its quality. Renewal Construction provides accessible, realistic options for homeowners, even those who, like us, juggle limited budgets and have little knowledge or experience in home improvement. We will gladly consult Peter and the Renewal folks the next time we enhance our two-bedroom palace.
